my girlfriends/bridesmaids are planning to throw a party for me, but i'm confused. what's the difference between a bachelorette party and a bridal shower? they both sound pretty similar to me. i want to include my family, but since my girlfriends are a little rowdy, i'm not sure what to expect from them.

My bridesmaids(who are all my best friends and my age) are putting together a 'girls night out!' for my bachlorette party. My mother is putting together a luncheon party for my bridal shower, which will be for relatives, close friends of family and any one else who doesn't want to be wild all night.

There is a huge difference between the two. A bridal shower is more intimate with friends and family(moms, aunts, grandmas) A bachlorette party is a night/weekend where you and your closest PARTY ANIMAL friends have time to bond! For example, my bridal shower is going to be a wine tasting luncheon that my best friend and sister are throwing. Everyone will receive a wine glass with their name decorated on it. That is the glass they will use to taste the different wines. For my bachlorette party, my best friends are planning a 3 day get away to South Beach Miami....THERES THE DIFFERENCE =)

If you have someone you really trust to coordinate -- you can really combine the two. That's what I did. My sister was in charge of keeping my friends under control so that nothing too embarrassing went on in front of older, more proper ladies. There were a few crazy gags, but nothing over the top. I knew I could trust my sister to keep things in good taste, so we partied and opened gifts and had a really good time. If my sister hadn't been in charge, I don't know if things would have been as pleasant.

My bridesmaids are throwing me a bridal shower / brunch in Manhattan and the planning process was pretty crazy! With respect to a bachelorette party - we decided to make a fun weekend out of it. The mothers and other 'tame' relatives are having brunch with us during the day and the girls are all going out later in the evening. While they were able to secure a wonderful space within a restaurant for brunch, pricing was a little much. We found a great place in Murray Hill, spoke to the manager who made some pretty incredible arrangements. My advice, plan WAY in advance - and be involved... sometimes the girls get a little crazy! It's always nice to have your own input, so it won't be too over the top when family is present! And NYC bridal showers/parties on a budget - takes time and patience to find the right spot, but is totally doable.

If you can have two parties, why not? Make the bridal shower include moms, aunts, female cousins, friends, etc., and make your bachelorette party rowdier with a select few friends! have a blast!

I would definitely have both a bridal shower and a bachelorette party. That way, you can have the adults and your mom's friends come to the shower - and your friends come to the bachelorette party!

I have a friend that is throwing a party for me and i am not sure what will be there either. I am not wild and am pretty nervous. I am good at showers - I know what to expect. parties are another thing!

I have found that most older female adults invited to a bridal shower can get into the mood of fun not allowed games and innuendos. Last fall I hosted a bridal shower for my neice and the oldest women in the room (my 80 year old mother and my sister's 65+ year old friend) were first in line to play "Place the Kitty on the Bachelor" .
