I was recently at a Jimmy V basketball tournment in Raleigh. The florist took a basketball, cut the top off, put 2 sticks long enough to hold the ball open (going from one side to the other) she then placed fresh flowers in the center. The center pieces were quite lovely. Hope this helps!

I'm not super creative- but I've been looking for personalized yarmulkes and have seen basketball ones available. That might be fun for the boys attending!

I saw these really cute basketball planters and themed candlelighting kits at awesome events.
It listed under new items.
They're a great company to work with.

I recently went to my niece's Bat Mitzvah, my first one ever. It was awesome! My husband and I were married just 6 months prior to that, and this event was even bigger than our reception had been! The theme was a beach theme, perfect for 12 and 13 year olds. My aunt had the entire place decorated with this theme. The tablecloths were all different colors, red, green, yellow, etc. The centerpieces were plastic sand pails filled with sand with a bunch of colorful balloons tied to each one, including one balloon at each table of a flip flop, lobster, etc. There were two food lines, one was for the adults with the salad served in a big clam bowl, things like that. The other line was for kids that was posted as "The Boardwalk," and it served french fries, burgers and hot dogs. There were also appetizers served in a huge boat structure, like cheese and fruit. All the kids got party bags that included singlasses, leis, fun things like that. They even gave each of them socks, so they could take off their shoes and really dance on the dance floor. The dance floor was decorated with a huge palm tree on each side, made of balloons, and a balloon arch between the two. They had a dj that also brought with him a bongo drum player and two older teenage girls that helped with teaching different dances to the kids and playing different games. They had a blast! The details at this theme definitely went a long way.

As a favor you can get a basketball bobblehead to hand out to either all of the guests, or just the children. There are theme bobbleheads and also bobbleheads with a blank face and a picture can be placed there.

We used programs from great basketball games in history -- bought on Ebay -- to designate tables and as part of the centerpieces.
