Is it tacky?
Way tacky. Weddings are supposed to be serious.

Its fine. As long as it is taken seriously, and done with meaning.

I have a friend getting married next summer, and he is having a problem deciding on an officiant; he does not want a religious figure, or a judge. In Oklahoma where we are from all you have to do is fill out the proper paperwork at the county courthouse where you will be preforming the wedding. I was wondering if it would seen tacky for me his close friend to perform the wedding, because everyone is aware that I am not a Judge or Clergyman? Razz

I am trying to find someone to perform my wedding. It is outdoors and I don't want a religious figure. I called the courts and they said they will not appoint me an officiant until I have a marriage license, but then they say not to get your marriage license until a month before. So I don't know???? Confused Question

I think it's a great idea. It was an option we considered as well. However, like others have commented, you want to make sure that you do not take it lightly, as it is a very serious and responsible position. Best wishes on whatever you and your friend decide is the best way to go.
