I went to a party with one, and was not really impressed. I am a true chocoholic, but the chocolate was just ok, and it was kind of messy. I am getting married soon and was going to have one, but have reconsidered.

I second marla, they look cool, but actually using them is intimidating. At a recent wedding I attended, the reception smelled great with all the chocolate but few people wound up tasting it because it was hard to dip your fruit without getting splashed and when you had it, the chocolate was all gloppy and runny so it could flow through the fountain. Bottom line: nice visual, and olfactory effect, but not very practical.

I agree with those that are bagging the chocolate fountain. I see them at bridal shows all of the time, and you can tell who has visited that booth by the fact that they have chocolate all over them. Also, if you have ever seen a chocolate fountain at the end of the night, it looks really repulsive. If you are totally into having the fountain though, do it, it is your day. Just don't get near it in your gown, and make sure that the vendor you choose has a reliable attendant to stand guard at the fountain to make sure nobody who has had too much to drink puts their head under the fountain, or kids who are enamored by chocolate don't get their little paws in there. Just be prepared if you do use one.

I do a lot of caterings with my mom's business, and they have chocolate fountains at many weddings. The best part is the new things they come up with to dip in the fountain! I'm excited for my wedding...I'm having 3...one large one with milk chocolate and two smaller ones with dark chocolate and white chocolate...we are having:

Strawberries
Pineapple
Pretzles
Cheesecake (small squares)
marshmallows
Grahm Crackers

It's going to be amazing and I'm so excited!!!

oh, and try a fountain squirting out ranch dressing...it's a hit for the healthier people out there Wink

I went to a wedding that had a fountain and I saw a little kid double dipping into it. If you are planning on using a fountain make sure you ask the person if they are going to be the ones dipping the food in for the people. Also keep in mind they are very messy. Since you will be in your wedding dress you won't be able to enjoy it as much as you want to.

Can you put punch in these or does it need to be a special fountain for things not as thick as melted chocolate?
