first of all, don't stress yourself out over a party that he won't remember.

second, recruit a close friend or relative (preferable someone crafty) you can delagate some of the responsibility to.

... or, if you have a friend that's not crafty but is great at organizing and planning, have him/her be the coordinator. That person can be the one to send out invites, thank you's, make shopping lists, help you stick to a budget, keep ideas in check (I tend to have ideas expand into fantastic ideas while I go, unfortunately, I have to remember what the occasion is for, who my audience is, how much time/money I have) An outside opinion can be priceless!

third...keep your party plans flexible. I planned my son's party to be between nap time. but, things happen, and I was still decorating the cake the first hour of the party. by the time I was done with the cake, it was naptime. luckily, my guests were our close friends and family (you can ask them for help in the heat of the moment) and very few children came because we didn't know many. Keep the parents of young kids responsible for entertaining them.

I hope some of this helps. Don't stress. I know it's fun to make a huge ordeal/party, but trust me, the older your kids get, the less energy you have. Conserve while you can!
