Is it okay to give a shower for someone who is pregnant when she has 2 children that are 8 and 10 years old? My sister is having a baby after 8 years and I wanted to give her a shower. I don't want to seem like I am asking for gifts, I just want to do something nice for her.

hrm,
well traditionally the baby shower is only given for the firstborn, it's sort of to help out the new parents with items that they do not have yet (or may not be able to afford).
i think you should definitely celebrate the 2nd and 3rd (etc) babies, but it's not customary to have a 'shower'. you could throw a 'party' for her and specify that gifts are not expected, and maybe make sure that the theme is about preparing the 8 & 10yr old for their new roles as baby-sitters?
i'm all for family parties!!! ur doing such a sweet thing for your sister! |

| I know it is a little late, but I did the same thing for a friend who had 2 other children and remarried- her kids were 6 and 10- so she was feeling a bit out of it and needed bascially everything new since things have changed so much for babies in the past 10 yrs. Hope it went well! |

I think that is really nice what you are doing for your sister. And if you dont want gifts, just say nicely in the invitation that you aren't accepting gifts.
Hope everything goes well. |

| Go for it! My mom gave me a 2nd baby shower after 5 years of having my first child. You will be amazed of the items that are out there that didn't exist when my first was born. She's going to need some help so go for it. Those that object to it should stay home. |

I think that's nice. My baby sister is has two kids and I'm throwing her a shower. She's a little depressed, so I wanted her to know that we're supporting her.
Good luck with your shower. |

I think that when the other children are older, you should have a baby shower since things change and sometimes you do not keep all baby stuff.
My friend is having her 4th and her last child is 5, she had given everything away and has nothing. She has to start again.[/b][/quote] |

| A friend of mine was invited to one of her family members baby shower for her 2nd child. Since she already had a "baby shower" for her 1st child a few years ago they called this one a "sprinkle". |
