My mother is turning 90 this April. On her 75th birthday, I was able to pull together a wonderful "reunion" for her of people who had known her and worked with her all her life, from all over the world. My sister was afraid she was going to have a stroke right then and there since it was a "surprise!" I was able to do most of the cooking and baking myself. Now, I am not up to the physical challenge, and she has lost enough of her mental focus that a large party would be too overwhelming, but she needs the recognition more than ever. I am trying to help a number of different groups of friends and colleagues plan smaller gatherings for her in different restaurants so she can focus on one "memory" at a time. Any suggestions for unusual places, especially near the upper West Side of Manhattan, would be appreciated!
